Cleaning Frequency: Terminal, Card Slot, Card Reader Head should be cleaned at regular intervals or as needed to insure proper operating conditions. Monthly cleaning is recommended for light use, weekly cleaning is recommended for heavier use.
Method of Cleaning: Apply a small amount of cleaner (Windex or similar non-abrasive, non-corrosive product) or Isopropyl alcohol on a paper towel.
- Terminal: use a paper towel and lightly mist it with cleaner to wipe down the case, keypad and display. It is very important to NOT spray the cleaner directly at the terminal nor soak the towel so the cleaner runs into the terminal.
- Card Slot: (if applicable), use compressed air or a dry paper towel folded in half and run back and forth through the card slot to clear out minor dust and debris. For heavier grime in card slot and on MAG reader head it is recommended purchasing cleaner cards. As a quick alternative to cleaner cards one can use a paper towel folded in half, lightly misted with cleaner to run back and forth through card slot and across MAG reader head. For the most part cleaner cards don’t provide much benefit to BAR readers other than to clean any minor grime on the BAR reader sight window since it operates on a different principle than MAG readers.
- Finger Scan Sensor: (if applicable), Dampen a lint-free cloth or cotton swab with alcohol or acetone. Gently rub the cloth across the sensor surface in a left and right direction. Move slowly down the sensor to cover the entire surface area. Repeat this process 2-3 times. Visually observe that no residual solution remains on the sensor.
